Our social and environmental commitment
Leading responsible freight transportation in the heart of Peru
Cleaner and more efficient transportation
Using rail as the backbone of bimodal logistics directly delivers significant environmental and operational benefits. Through our rail operations, we promote responsible practices that support environmental protection and sustainability across the territories we serve.
Reduced road congestion
Helps reduce road congestion, particularly in areas with high mining activity, improving traffic flow and reducing infrastructure wear.
Lower exposure to risk
Decreases exposure to road‑related risks compared to fully road‑based schemes, significantly protecting lives and assets.
Energy optimization
Optimizes energy consumption per ton transported, resulting in a considerably lower carbon footprint and contributing to overall efficiency.
Responsible use of infrastructure
Promotes more responsible use of ground transportation infrastructure, extending its service life and reducing the need for new construction and costly maintenance.
Environmental management under international standards
Our operations are certified under globally recognized standards, ensuring a systematic and proactive approach to environmental protection.

Continuous environmental training and culture
Sustainability is a core value embedded in our corporate culture. We run ongoing training and awareness programs for all staff, ensuring operations that are prepared and environmentally conscious.
Key programs
- Training on environmental regulations and standards.
- Spill and incident response protocols.
- Natural‑event emergency drills for operational readiness.
- Emergency plans and effective preventive controls.
Sustainability at PeruRail Cargo
At PeruRail Cargo, we are firmly committed to sustainable development in the regions where we operate. Our approach is built on three pillars: social impact, rail safety and education, and responsible environmental management.
Through these programs, we aim to create value for local communities, promote a culture of prevention, and contribute to the sustainable development of the rail corridor across Cusco, Arequipa, and Puno.
Rail Safety and Education
We promote a culture of prevention, respect, and safe coexistence with the rail system. Our programs seek to reduce accidents and strengthen safety along tracks and operational areas through education, awareness, and community engagement.
This program is developed as a community engagement strategy aimed at incorporating preventive practices and reducing risks associated with rail operations.
What we do:
- Analysis of incidents recorded between 2020 and 2024.
- Review of rail tracks, trains, and locomotives involved.
- Assessment of schedules, shifts, and risk factors with operational staff.
- Audience segmentation: students, drivers, pedestrians, local authorities, and associations.
Program impact:
- 29 localities benefited.
- More than 2,255 people trained, including students, teachers, transport operators, and community leaders.
- Actions carried out in Cusco and Arequipa, in coordination with municipalities and local stakeholders.
We developed a comprehensive education program for schools located near rail lines, targeting 5th and 6th grade students.
Results:
- Joint work with 4 schools.
- 580 students participated in co‑creation processes for safety messages.
- 1,780 community members indirectly impacted.
- Active promotion of education focused on prevention and safe coexistence with the rail system.
Social Development in Communities
In the areas where we operate, communities are our strategic partners. We implement initiatives that strengthen local well‑being, build productive capabilities, and promote sustainable integration with rail operations.
Program Impact – Alpaca Program
The Alpaca Program aims to improve the health and productivity of alpacas, the primary source of income for hundreds of families in the high‑Andean region.
- 93% of identified alpaca‑raising families were supported.
- More than 4,800 alpacas received veterinary care, deworming, and immune strengthening.
- Training in livestock management, commercial practices, and cold‑weather preparedness strategies.
- The program met its objectives within established timelines, strengthening the relationship between the company and beneficiary communities.
A sustainable future for the southern logistics corridor
The environmental commitment of PeruRail Cargo is ongoing and focused on continuous improvement, integrating energy efficiency and responsible operations as non‑negotiable standards.
Every segment of our network seeks to integrate harmoniously with its surroundings, reducing risks and creating value for communities and territories where we operate, building a lasting legacy of sustainability for future generations.
