PeruRail Cargo Reinforces Its Commitment to Sustainable Mining in Arequipa with International Tri‑Norm Certifications

The renewal of these certifications, granted by ICONTEC with IQNet recognition—the world’s largest certification network, present in more than 40 countries—confirms that PeruRail’s operations comply with international standards for quality, environmental management and occupational health and safety, independently audited.

Arequipa, 21 April 2026

PeruRail continues to strengthen its presence in the mining logistics sector in Arequipa through PeruRail Cargo, its business unit specialised in mineral transportation. In this context, the company has successfully renewed its three international tri‑norm certificationsISO 14001:2015, ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018—applied to its copper concentrate transportation operations.

This scope covers the entire operational chain, from transfer and rail transport at stations such as Pillones and La Joya, as well as transportation at the Islay station (Port of Matarani), through to unloading at the Port Terminal of Matarani. It also includes loading and road transport via articulated vehicle units along the Tinajones – Cerro Verde bypass, consolidating PeruRail as a key player in sustainable mining logistics in southern Peru. Furthermore, these certifications are a critical requirement to operate with mining companies that demand internationally recognised standards from their logistics partners.

Each certification addresses essential aspects of the operation. ISO 14001:2015 ensures the identification and control of environmental impacts, a critical factor in copper concentrate transportation. ISO 9001:2015 guarantees that processes are designed to be consistent, measurable and subject to continuous improvement. Meanwhile, ISO 45001:2018 certifies that operations are carried out under a robust occupational health and safety management system, based on active employee engagement and continuous risk management.

“This achievement is the result of the coordinated efforts of our teams, who operate every day under the highest standards at every stage of the process. This recertification reflects their commitment and the key role they play in ensuring a safe, efficient operation aligned with sector requirements,”
said José Zarate, Chief Executive Officer of PeruRail.

The renewal of the tri‑norm certification not only supports the current operation but also enables PeruRail to project the growth of its cargo business, extend its reach to new operations and continue raising its standards in line with industry expectations. These certifications are valid until December 2028, ensuring the continuity of these standards in the medium term. Through this milestone, PeruRail reaffirms its commitment to the development of more responsible and efficient mining in Arequipa, consolidating its role as a strategic partner to the sector and contributing to the strengthening of increasingly higher standards across the region.
