Servicio Bimodal de Peru Rail

What is the Bimodal Service?

This is a service that combines travelling by bus and by train, departing from and arriving at the city of Cusco. A private bus departs from Wanchaq station to arrive at the Ollantaytambo station or the Rio Sagrado Hotel (depending on the service you choose) and boarding a train to the final destination at the Machu Picchu Pueblo station.

Please note: Although this bimodal service (bus + train) operates all year round for some frequencies of our train services, during the months of January to April it applies to all frequencies that depart from and to the city of Cusco.

Bimodal route for PeruRail Trains:

The bi-modal service offered with the PeruRail Vistadome Observatory, PeruRail Vistadome, and PeruRail Expedition trains include a private bus that leaves the Wanchaq Station (located 5 minutes from the center of Cusco) to arrive at the Ollantaytambo Station. The transfer is made here to the train for the final destination at the Machu Picchu Pueblo Station.

What is the difference between the Regular and Bimodal Services?

The regular passenger service is chosen by passengers to travel the journey from Cusco to Machu Picchu and back entirely by train. On the other hand, the bimodal service is the combination of bus and train to travel these same routes.

Does this bus take me directly to the Machu Picchu citadel?

No, the bi-modal service takes passengers to the  Ollantaytambo station, from where they continue the route by train to the  Machu Picchu station.  To get to the Inca citadel, you need to board one of the authorized buses at Machu Picchu Pueblo that will take you up to the entrance of the historical sanctuary.
