Within the framework of the 9th World Congress on South American Camelids, held in Arequipa, PeruRail participated as a sponsor of one of the most important academic and scientific gatherings in the sector worldwide. Through this involvement, we reaffirm our commitment to the sustainable development of Andean highland communities and the preservation of South American camelids—an iconic heritage of Peru.

During the event, we presented the progress of the Comprehensive Alpaca Protection Programme, an initiative we have been driving since 2016 and which now benefits more than 80 alpaca-breeding families in Tambo Cañahuas and Pillones (Arequipa), as well as in Crucero Alto (Puno).

Through this programme, PeruRail provides comprehensive veterinary support to herds exceeding 20,000 camelids, promoting animal welfare, sustainable production and the strengthening of rural economies across Peru’s Andean highlands.

The World Congress brought together researchers, producers, specialists and international representatives to address topics such as genetic innovation, sustainability, conservation and the future of the South American camelid value chain. In this context, the participation of beneficiary communities enabled the direct impact of collaborative efforts between the company and local populations to be showcased.

For PeruRail, protecting alpacas also means preserving culture, identity and opportunities for thousands of Peruvian families. That is why we continue to promote initiatives with sustainable social impact that contribute to the development and well-being of Andean regions.
Through actions focused on creating shared value, PeruRail reaffirms its belief that caring for communities is also an investment in the future of Peru.
