As every year, we took part in this festival organised by the Tambo Cañahuas Peasant Community, located within the Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve (RNSAB), alongside local communities and authorities.
The Chaccu is one of the most emblematic ancestral traditions of the high Andean communities. It reflects their cultural identity, communal organisation and deep connection to the land, while enabling the sustainable management of vicuña fibre. Passed down from generation to generation, this practice is closely linked to the conservation of this iconic Andean species and its unique ecosystem.
