More than 1 million passengers transported in 2025 alone
Cusco – For thousands of Cusco residents, the train is far more than a postcard for visitors. It represents work, education, and connection. Every day, the Local Train to Machupicchu enables residents of Machupicchu and the provinces of Anta, Urubamba, and La Convención to travel between their homes, schools, and workplaces, making it an essential service for daily life and the development of these regions.

The Local Train serves as the main transport route for 51 communities located along the railway line. Its importance is reflected in record figures: in 2025 alone, a total of 1,103,543 journeys were carried out, the highest number since the service began 27 years ago. Over the past five years, more than 4 million passengers have relied on this service, thanks to its speed, efficiency, and social fare that guarantees safe and accessible transport for thousands of families in Cusco.

Since 1999, PeruRail has been the only operator to voluntarily offer this service at a social fare, supported by a private subsidy that ensures high standards of efficiency and safety for local passengers. In the last five years alone, the company has invested more than S/ 38.5 million, ensuring the continuous, safe, and reliable operation of the Local Train.
